Year 1 Blog

 Wow!! Today in Big Phonics, Year 1 got a wonderful surprise.  Felicity Fairy came to see us. At the start of the week, Felicity sent us a lovely package and letter full of the new Year 1 sounds and she came to see how well we were getting on. She played lots of fun phonics games with the children before flying back to Fairyland. See you soon Felicity!!

Today in Phonics we had a special delivery from Felicity Fairy. A parcel was delivered and inside were our new sound cards and a letter from Felicity. She praised the children for all their hard work learning the reception sounds and said they were ready to start learning the year 1 song.  We sang through the new song today and learnt the new actions.  Here is a link to the song if your child would like to practise it at home.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by8fWpqUkjw

 Today we thought about other people’s toys as part of our history topic looking at ‘Toys Old and New’. We sorted the toys out to match them with the people that might play with them. 

This week we made some great moving pictures using a card and handle mechanism! The children had such fun choosing and colouring their picture and some even wanted to carry on and decorate their card’s background. 

Today was our first lesson looking at beebots. We learnt what the buttons did and then in pairs had a go at programming the beebots with one or two commands. 

We had a great first week in Beech class. We explored the different areas within the classroom and had a go at some of the challenges.
