English - Performing poetry

Image
Today we worked in small groups and had a verse each from our poem ‘Roar’. We had to work collaboratively to decide how we wanted to perform our poem. We thought about our voices and expressions to use. We then added actions. We practised and practised and tried to recite some words off by heart. We then performed our poems to the rest of the class. We tried to use loud, clear voices so everyone could hear us.

English - To recognise rhyming words and perform poems.

Today we looked at a poem called ‘Roar’ in English. We practised reading out each verse and adding expression and actions. We then tried to work out which words rhymed in each verse. We quickly found out that the words were at the end of each line. We then practised reading and writing the rhyming words and had a go at thinking of our own rhyming words.

Computing - To paint using computers.

Today we used the laptops to paint a picture. We went on a Paint app and painted a picture in pairs. We tried out the different tools to paint, draw, flood fill and spray paint. We also learnt how to change the thickness of the paintbrush and how to ‘undo’ when we made a mistake. The children loved painting their pictures and this helped develop their mouse skills as well - using the track pads on the laptop.

DT - To identify patterns in buildings.

Today in DT we continued to look at buildings. We started by looking at photographs of buildings and looking for different patterns in them. We then went into our outside area to make rubbings. We tried to find different patterns.

Big Phonics - ear / ere / eer

Image
Today in Big Phonics we played some games to consolidate the learning of the ear / ere / eer sounds we learnt this week. We played a game in pairs to spot the ear graphemes in words. We then found cards around the classroom and had to check the spelling and see if they had used the correct grapheme. Finally we did some handwriting to practise writing the graphemes correctly.
