PSHE - Road safety trip to cross the road (Freshwater Class)

Today the children in Freshwater Class went out in small groups on to Baring Road to practise crossing the road and to learn about road safety. We began by looking at how we can keep safe whilst walking on the pavement. We looked at the different hazards that were around us. We saw parked cars but learnt that we need to be aware they could start moving, or someone could open their door on to us. We also looked at driveways and spoke about cars going in and out and over the pavement. We practised stopping and looking before crossing the top of driveways.

We then practised crossing the road. We learnt that we must hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road at this age. We stopped, looked both ways and listened. We then looked again before walking and crossing the road. Everyone did really well and were really sensible when crossing the road.

Thank you to our year 5 travel ambassadors who assisted us with our road safety. You all showed great maturity and asked the children some great questions.
