 Today we had a wonderful workshop with Ruth from Judaism for Schools.  She talked to us about the Jewish Home. We learnt about the mezuzah (a section of the holy Torah scroll that is displayed on Jewish doorways), the kiddish cup, Shabbat candles and challah bread used weekly on the Jewish holy day of Shabbat (Saturday). We tried on Kippah hats and prayer shawls that are worn to the Jewish place of prayer, the Synagogue.  We saw the the Hanukkah candles used at the festival of Hanukkah in the Winter and played with the traditional spinning top dreidel game. We had great fun and it really inspired an interest in learning about things that are special to different people. 

 In geography we have been thinking about where we live. We have learnt how to find our country on a world map or globe using key markers. We’ve then thought about the United Kingdom and what four countries makeup the UK. You might like to test your child at home. Today we tried to make the UK out of playdoh, which was quite tricky, but we did really well. 

 Belonging Today we thought about what belonging means and what happens when we feel that we belong. This then extended to exploring how Jewish people use Shabbat to feel connected to their community. This time every week is a time where those of Jewish faith gather together, away from technology and share a meal and blessings. We also had a visit from Rev Dion who talked about belonging with regards to the Christian faith. 

 We had a fantastic time with Peter from ‘Wonderstruck Science on Fire’. He showed us the fun in pushes, pulls and forces.  We saw smoke rings, rockets, beds of nails, explosions and bangs Well done to Stanley who was able to  correctly identify that fire needed fuel and oxygen to burn.
