Science - How do we know it is Autumn?

Image
After missing science last week, due to the Queen's funeral, we had lots to do today! We began by recapping what we knew about Summer, and what changes we might expect to see now it is Autumn. We identified changes in: - weather - plant and animal behaviour - activities and clothing We then went on a hunt outside to find 'evidence' of autumn in our area. We used Identification keys and photos to help us identify and classify what we had found, which included; oak leaves, acorns, pinecones, mushrooms, alder leaves, birch leaves, and horse chestnut leaves.  Finally, we sketched a diagram of our 'evidence' and labelled it.

PSHE - I can understand what makes a good friend.

Today, year 1 talked about what makes a good friend and what makes a bad friend. We talked about being kids, offering to play with them, helping them if they are hurt and lots of other things we can do to be a good friend. We then talked about things that would make us not a good friend, like hurting them on purpose, being mean and taking their things. Everyone then drew a picture of their perfect friend and wrote 3 things that their perfect friend needed to have.

Computing - I can give instructions and follow directions.

Today we pretended to be beebots and gave instructions to our partner to move around. We used the words forwards, backwards, left and right - like we use when programming the beebots. We had great fun giving instructions and then following directions. We had to listen carefully to what our partner asked us to do.

Maths - I can count 1 more and 1 less (within 10)

Today we used the blocks to make towers and worked out how many there would be if we added one more and then if we took one away. We then played a game where we rolled a dice and worked out one more and one less.

Geography - I can identify which months belong to each season.

Image
In geography today, we continued our work into the four seasons of the year. We are very well cemented in the four seasons so we now focus on the 12 months of the year and which month correlates with which season. Have a look at some of us identifying which season goes with each month.

Maths - I can count backwards (within 10).

Today in Maths we looking at counting backwards  from ten to zero.  We looked  at numbers lines and worked out which number came next. Children then used the numicon and ordered it from 10 to 1. They then used post it notes to label the pieces. We worked really hard on forming numbers correctly and making sure they were the right way round.
